About Ask Axel
Free, plain-English money guides for people at the start of their financial lives.
Why we exist
Most of us leave school without learning how money works. Then, in our first few years of work, we're expected to make decisions about pensions, savings and investing that can shape the rest of our lives.
Ask Axel explains those decisions in plain English and in a sensible order, so you can understand your options and choose what suits you.
What we do
- Explain how budgeting, saving, pensions and investing work in the UK.
- Set out a simple route to financial freedom, from budgeting to long-term investing.
- Offer free calculators so you can try your own figures.
What we don't do
- We don't give personal financial advice or tell you what to buy.
- We don't sell financial products.
- We aren't authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to give advice. If you need advice based on your circumstances, speak to an FCA-authorised financial adviser.
How we check our guides
We check every guide against official sources, such as GOV.UK, HMRC and the Financial Conduct Authority, and list those sources at the end of the guide. Each guide shows the date it was last checked, because tax rules and allowances change. If you spot something that's out of date, please let us know. Read our full editorial policy.
How the site is funded
Ask Axel is free to use. In future, we may show adverts or sponsored content to cover our costs. If we do, they'll always be clearly labelled, they'll never influence what we write, and we'll only accept financial adverts from firms authorised by the FCA.
Who's behind it
Ask Axel is an independent project based in the UK. You can reach us at any time through our contact page.
